The Conservatory requires financial assistance to meet the following needs:
Disburse Financial Aid Based on Need
During the 2008-09 fiscal year, the Conservatory will disburse $75,000 in financial aid to worthy students who would otherwise be unable to attend.
Commission Choreographers
The Conservatory will pay $75,000 during the 2008-09 fiscal year to commission new works from outstanding choreographers.
Teach Existing Works of Master Choreographers
During the the 2008-09 fiscal year, the Conservatory will be flying representatives of William Forsythe, Jiri Kylian, and Ohad Naharin to San Francisco from Germany, the Netherlands and Israel to adapt and set existing choreography on its students. The total cost, including airfares, accommodations, fees, per-diem expenses, associated studio rent and production/performance expenses is more than $60,000.
Acquire Long-Term Dance Studios
The Conservatory has been searching since 2004 for suitable, affordable facilities to lease on a long-term basis. The few spaces we found that might have worked required a substantial investment in build-out costs to make them functional. Financial assistance on a significant level could greatly facilitate our achieving this most important of our priorities. We would heartily welcome the opportunity to discuss this prospect with any parties inclined and able to assist us.
