Anna Karney

Anna began her music studies with ten years of training in piano, conducting, and music theory at The San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Awarded the Presser Scholarship for outstanding achievement as a Music Major, she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in electronic music from San Francisco State University.
From her early work as a dance accompanist, Anna developed an interest in creating music for dance. She has since composed and performed musical scores for both modern dance and ballet, her most recent works titled “Death of A Hero” and “Storyboard”. She was both an accompanist and composer-in-residence for the San Francisco State University graduate dance department and the Mills College dance department.
As an accompanist for dance, Anna has played classes for Edward Valela, Anna Sokolo, San Francisco Ballet School, Margaret Jenkins Dance Company, ODC/Dance, Richard Gibson and The Academy of Ballet, June Watanabe, Lucas Hoving, Ed Mock, Janice Garret, Melissa Fenley, Summer Lee Rhatigan and the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance.
Anna also composed her Opus 1 Chaconne Sur Sept for the nationally renowned, contemporary music group Earplay Ensemble. She has had her works performed at several Bay Area theaters, including The Zellerbach Playhouse, The Cowell Theater, Theater Artaud, The New Performance Gallery, and Mills College.
As a singer/songwriter/guitarist, Anna has released two CDs of original songs. She and her band tour the west coast throughout the year, and her CDs are widely distributed to major and local stores in those same areas. Anna is the President and principle composer/sound designer for Karney Music and Sounds Inc. and creates full length scores year round in the field of electronic games. Some of her better-known clients include LucasArts, Electronic Arts, and Planet Moon Studios.
