Tristan Ching
Former Dancer with Robert Moses' KIN; authorized by Robert Moses to set his choreography
Biography
Tristan has been teaching and setting the choreography of Robert Moses at the Conservatory since 2005. She danced with Robert Moses’ Kin (RMK) for eleven years, beginning in 1995 when the company was founded. In addition to performing and touring with RMK, she enjoyed personally rewarding opportunities to teach master classes, set Mr. Moses’ work on companies and schools around the country, and participate in writing workshops during RMK’s 1994 collaboration with Youth Speaks.
She has also had the privilege of working with Janice Garrett, Stephen Pelton, Alexander Proia, and Enrico Labayen, and touring with the New York based company Chen and Dancers.
Tristan received her early ballet training at the Westside School of Ballet in Santa Monica, CA and at the San Francisco Ballet School. She began studying modern dance with Diane Frank and Robert Moses at Stanford University, where she graduated with a BA in English and an MA in Dance Education.
Life as a semi-retired dancer has found Tristan traveling, writing, learning tango, and enjoying fresh perspectives on her life-long passion for dance. At the Conservatory, she hopes to help young dancers realize their potential as individual artists while appreciating their role as part of a larger artistic vision, and integrate dance into their multi-faceted lives in a way that is personally fulfilling.
